Dandelion





This video shows the browing process of the "Dandelion" place of the NFT platform. The visitors can free to control the direction and zoom in/out to view the details of the dandelion fluff, the millions of overlapping lines of the graphic pattern will automatic adjust the visual performance of thickness and transparency adopting trorough the visitor’s viewpoints. When the viewer moves the windows close to the position that is the first (core) branch growing on the dandelion, it will trigger the mechanism that displays “digital signature”. In the same time artist name will be appearing on the pedicel, and the code that using artist birthday ”7117” for the L-system’s production rules will active, the generated numbers will placing on each recursive growth level as branch does, the whole string mades symbol looks as a nature growth patterns.

The creation logic of this work “digital signature of dandelion project” is develop for reflecting artist’s personal experience on restrictions of nationality identification in international situations. The idea is build inside his generative art project - “dandelion”, which launch on NFT (non-fungible token), is going to be releasing soon. This work proposed a mechanism that combines the algorithmic rules on generative art and the NFT technologies, make collectors/metaverse visitors free to explore the computational aesthetics of millions of overlapping lines of the graphic patterns, and at the same time by triggering the display of digital signature, to know more about the artist's identity and nationality facts that are difficult to articulate internationally in unobtrusive way.


Here is a gap of 1911 years (1911 is the year of the establishment of the ROC in Taiwan) between the ROC era and the Common era. As see the artist ID card (right), used ROC era time to issue the birthday date “7117,” It is means the date of Common era time in 7 of Jan, 1982.



Creation logic of “digital signature of dandelion project”
The artist was born in Taipei, Taiwan. The government of Taiwan (officially known as the government of the ROC) was established in 1911. In the Taiwanese society I live in, all daily operating time systems are issued by ROC time (Time count since the founding of the ROC in Taiwan) as the main and official time unit (including my ID cards and driver's licenses). The date of birth issued on artist’s ID card is January 7, 71 (ROC era time). The abbreviation of the date in Taiwan will be written as a 4 numbers of string consisting of '7117'. Inspiring from the recursive nature and the formal grammar played in L-system, ‘7117’ can deconstruction and descrip by using production rules of  (7 → 71), (1 → 17) to expand the initial symbol set in 7 (axiom: 7), and then it will produce the datas by recursion level in a natural grows processes as:

n = 0: 7
n = 1: 71
n = 2: 7117
n = 3: 71171771
n = 4: 7117177117717117

The above data string also fitting the features the origin mechanism of symmetry, fractal tree and recursion used in dandelion projects. Using the code from artist’s ROC era time and translate it into the production rules in L-system, represent in an alternative data-driven art in visualization, which also can see as artist using his national identity information into the creation.



Triggering the mechanism of displaying “digital signature”
In Dandelion project, artist utilized the mechanism from symmetry, fractal tree and recursion to create generative rules in visual art,  he using artistic viewpoint altering and changing the geometric description of leaves and branches through the parameter, creating diverse growth dandelion-like morphology. Ukraine and Taiwan
1911 (the establishment of the ROC in Taiwan) has no meaning to the world, just as Taiwan does not seem to exist to the world, even though our system still uses ROC era time. To participate in international world events, you have to rely on the political orientation of the organizer to decide how to display your nationality, or be denied participation. At the same time as the Russian war, the whole of Taiwan is talking about whether we will be the next Ukraine. These are the situations in which we Taiwanese face the world. This work hopes to stand in the author's personal mentality, so that people can empathize with it, a complex situation does not seem to exist in this world, but exists. In the creation of digital signatures, I hope that the people will be from interested and curious about the beauty of the dandelion, so that they can truly appreciate and recognize the essence of the artist being.

這件作品是關於一位藝術家對於自身在國際上身份認同遭遇的壓迫與限制,所發展的自我認同的「數位簽名」的創作邏輯。這件作品將發展在NFT平台(籌備發行中),它融合衍生藝術系統和NFT技術發展創意,讓收藏家/元宇宙訪客,對作品的patterns自由探索瀏覽,基於對藝術內涵、美感表現吸引的探索中,觸發「數位簽名」顯現機制,認識到藝術家個人資訊,以及在國際上困難表達的身份元素的表現。

-「數位簽名」的創作邏輯
創作者,出生在台灣台北。台灣政府(中華民國),建立於1911年,在他生活的台灣社會官方文件(包含身分證和駕照)都是以民國,定義日期單位。作者身份證上的出生日期為民國71年1月7日,’7117’這組數字的組成,正好符合一種編碼上對稱性的描述。作者運用L-system對於,”7->71“和”1->17”的規則制定,發展一種能運用在”dandelion”二元樹資料iteration的結構上,產生如同「生日」對稱性文字的生成邏輯,形成一種特有的從文字轉換視覺符號的創作表現。

-觸發「數位簽名」顯現機制
蒲公英是由上萬條線條所描述構成的,創作者在fractal tree 和recursion的造形結構中,以藝術表現驅動數據組織的方式,定義線條的表現內容與參數。在平台上,使用者可以用「上下左右」和「+-」鍵,探索蒲公英圖形的細節,視窗內的描述線條細節與參數會在不縮小放大狀控中自主調整呈現內容。當觀眾細看到蒲公英第一節(核心)生長處分枝的位置時,程式會觸發「數位簽名」顯現機制。在花托上浮現創作者的數位名字,啟動以作者生日”7117”發展的衍生規則,呈現新的蒲公英視覺型態。

1911年(民國元年)對於全世界沒有意義,就好像台灣一樣,我們在全世界像是消失的國家。在國際場合必須依賴主辦單位的政治傾向,決定自己國籍的寫法或是去留。在俄烏戰爭的同時,台灣全國上下都在談論,我們會不會是下一個烏克蘭。即便如此,我們依然使用「中華民國/台灣」這樣的國號,行使在我們的社會。這件作品希望站在作者個人的心境,讓大眾理解,一種介於存在又不能存在的複雜狀態。在「數位簽名」創作上,我希望從誘發觀眾對於蒲公英線條的欣賞中,真正認同作者的存在的本質。
